A La Mode FAQ

Is everything gluten free?

Everything except the ice cream is made in-house and from scratch, and we only use wheat/gluten free flour. We also go to great lengths to ensure that none of the mix-ins are made in a facility with wheat or gluten, but some of our other mix-ins (like M&Ms) may be made in a facility containing other allergens, so we leave that to the discretion of the customer.  â€‹

What's on the menu?

There's a set menu of desserts that will always be available, as well as rotating specials and seasonal treats!

The ice cream menu will be similar with set staples, milkshakes, and sundaes, with seasonal flavors on rotation. Our sundae menu has lots of fun pairings, as well as the option to build your own. Check out our full menu here.

Is the ice cream made in-house?

While the ice cream is freshly made in small batches, it's provided by our friends at The Big Dipper in Prospect. We showcase some of their most popular flavors, along with some custom flavors made just for you!

Disclaimer: The Big Dipper is not exclusively allergen free. Their facility strictly follows state guidelines for avoiding cross-contamination, has safety protocols in place, and understands how crucial allergy awareness is. We provide the add-ins, so those ingredients are confirmed to be free from wheat, gluten, and nuts, but please understand that cross-contamination can happen.

Where are you located?

Find us in the heart of downtown Southington at 159 Liberty Street. We're in walking distance to the town green, Rails to Trails walking trail, St Thomas Church, and a bunch of great restaurants and local businesses. Southington is my hometown, so couldn't think of a better place to open up shop!

What does "a la mode" mean?

In the USA, “a la mode” is often used to describe a dessert that’s served with ice cream (think “apple pie a la mode”). Since we serve dessert and ice cream, it was a perfect fit!

Fun fact: My mom actually named the business. When I told her about the idea, her first response was, “Well, you’ll have to name it A La Mode!” So, here we are :) Read more about A La Mode's story here.

Do you take custom orders?

Yes! Contact us for more information.

How much notice do you need for orders?

The earlier, the better! We prefer at least a week, but feel free to call us if it's short notice; we're happy to try to accommodate.
